The OE 22 headunit has built in filters, EQ and phase-adjustments that are also making things sound worse than your Sony (the Sony was a better audio unit, period). Lots to consider but a simple 4x50 setup would seem to be a cost effective straightforward option. Seems to me a DSP amp is a waste if not fixing the signal and in my case, I am just concerned about getting the right balance between amplified separates up front, headunit driving the rears and a sub with a bass knob constantly fighting roll of….and is it really worth the extra grand to try to fix it or just go with a 3-channel config and call it a day. My only question is if the OEM headunit processing is really all that bad with noted issues of bass roll of at higher levels. All would also require a patch harness to tap high level leads and the pass back the speaker leads. I could also do an 5-channel option without DSP. Guess you could do the same with a DSP AudioContol amp. I could go a JL VXi route to have DSP functionality but that is still over the OEM signal…And I really don’t want the addition of a JL Fix 82. I hear all the discussion about the headunit processing but in all honesty it sounds pretty good with the Focals and I just want more power. Stealthy install and completely reversible. Everything receives the same “processing” albeit with the fronts getting more power. No wire harnesses needed behind the headunit. The rears run off the headunit and I have 300WPC for a JL Stealthbox sub with a bass knob. I can pick up the high level signal on my front stage right before my crossovers and then pass back 75WPC to the fronts. So I am thinking about picking up a 3-channel JL XD amp. Surprisingly, the OEM setup seemed to have more volume running over my Focal separates up front and coax’s in the rear doors due to the processing in the unit. So after all kinds of troubleshooting I just un-installed and went back to my factory unit. I recently installed a TGP Sony A圆000 unit…it just would not maintain a wireless CarPlay connection. I chose the Audison DSP 5.Considering the same. If I feel I want the DSP amp for more I can add later and then individually time align the left and right sets better than by just using crossover for basically a passive system. The system should be louder than the oem base speakers w better clarity and sharpness. I do have some concern over factory Ioniq 5 warranty issues if one is adding the DSP amp so I considered this option: Prima 165P components using their crossovers for front install & then install a set of APX 165 Prima coaxials in the rear & dynamat the front doors. I have an install date in a week and I am planning to go active w Audison 5.9 5 channel DSP amp and the Audison APK 165P 4ohm components, leave the rears as is to be run off oem head unit. Reason being the 2 ohm will allow the speaker to play louder based on the factory oem head unit amplification output but conversely it will draw more watts. I would advise that if you plan to go this route look at the Audison 165 Prima 2ohm speaker for component and coaxial. You can switch out the front and rear speakers as you mention without an amp or a dsp or a integrated amp w DSP.
